La côte sauvage de Saint-Barthélemy

The Zenith guide

Secret beaches, legendary tables

We live on the island year-round: here are the beaches we truly love and the tables we take our clients to. Short, subjective, and proudly so.

The beaches

Eight sands, eight characters

Sixteen beaches on twenty-four square kilometres: each has its hour, its wind and its ritual. Our selection, from the family lagoon to the wild coast.

Saint-Jean — Saint-BarthélemyLively & chic

Saint-Jean

Two curves of sand either side of Eden Rock, legendary beach clubs and the little planes skimming the hill: the liveliest beach on the island.

The Zenith tipBook a toes-in-the-sand lunch and stay for the afternoon — we secure the best sunbeds.

Flamands — Saint-BarthélemyGrand & elegant

Flamands

The widest beach on the island, dazzling white sand and some of its finest hotel addresses. Perfect for long morning walks.

The Zenith tipEarly morning, the light is unreal — the perfect moment for a family photo session.

Colombier — Saint-BarthélemySecret & wild

Colombier

Reachable only on foot or by boat, the “Rockefeller beach” must be earned: a coastal trail, turtles in the bay, a turquoise anchorage.

The Zenith tipWe arrange the boat crossing with a picnic basket — and the sail home at sunset.

Gouverneur — Saint-BarthélemyUntouched

Gouverneur

A perfect cove framed by green hills, without a single shop. Quite simply one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean.

The Zenith tipNo services on site: cooler, parasols and towels will be waiting in your car.

Saline — Saint-BarthélemyNature

Saline

Behind the old salt ponds, a vast stretch of wild sand rocked by a gentle swell. Barefoot, no parasols, out of time.

The Zenith tipGo late in the day, when the hill casts its shadow and the beach empties.

Grand Cul-de-Sac — Saint-BarthélemyFamily lagoon

Grand Cul-de-Sac

A shallow lagoon protected by the reef: calm water for children, kitesurf for the grown-ups, turtles at first light.

The Zenith tipSunrise paddleboarding among the turtles remains our favourite moment on the island.

Shell Beach — Saint-BarthélemyShells & sunsets

Shell Beach

Steps from Gustavia, a beach covered in thousands of shells. The end-of-day meeting point, drink in hand.

The Zenith tipThe best sunset “in town” — then stay for dinner right there, no car needed.

Toiny — Saint-BarthélemySurf & character

Toiny

The windward coast, raw and spectacular: rollers for surfers, natural pools at low tide and nobody on the horizon.

The Zenith tipNot really for swimming — come to walk, photograph, breathe. Majestic after a squall.

The tables

The experiences

Six things to live at least once

Beyond the beaches and the tables, the island is best earned by boat, on foot and at sunset. Our favourite rituals — all arranged by the concierge.

01

The island tour by boat

A day among unreachable coves, an anchorage at Colombier and rosé in the setting sun. The finest view of the island is still from the sea.

02

Snorkeling in the Nature Reserve

Turtles, rays and parrotfish across the Reserve's protected sites. Fins and masks await you at the villa.

03

The Colombier trail

Twenty minutes of coastal path between cacti and plunging views, rewarded by the island's most secret beach.

04

Surfing in Lorient

The island's most consistent wave: gentle inshore for learning, more committed out back. Private lessons from age six.

05

Gustavia on foot

Duty-free, galleries, jewellers and lanes of Swedish heritage: two hours of wandering between the harbour and Shell Beach.

06

Fort Karl at sunset

A five-minute climb above Shell Beach: at 5:30pm, the whole bay of Gustavia catches fire. Bring something to toast with.

The calendar

The island's calendar

A tiny island with a capital city's calendar. The rendezvous around which stays — and villas — get booked.

January

Saint-Barth Music Festival

Classical, jazz and dance take over the churches and the quays: the island's melomane season.

March

Saint Barth Bucket

The world's greatest sailing yachts race around the island. Gustavia fills with dizzying masts.

April

Les Voiles de Saint-Barth

A week of regattas and harbour parties. The most joyful mood of the season.

August 24

Saint-Barthélemy Day

The patron saint's day: local regattas, dances and fireworks over Gustavia harbour.

November

Gourmet Festival

Michelin-starred guest chefs at the island's great tables: the island sits down to dinner.

December — January

The Festive Season

Legendary réveillons, a harbour studded with yachts, New Year fireworks. Villas book up a year ahead.

Good to know

The island, how it works

Getting around

A car is essential — the Mini Moke is the local icon. We book it and have it delivered to the villa.

Currency

The euro is the official currency, dollars are widely accepted, cards work everywhere.

Languages

French and English are spoken everywhere — and a “bonjour” on entering opens every door.

Climate

Around 27°C all year, steady trade winds. Dry season from December to May, brief showers in summer.

Arriving

Landing on the Saint-Jean airstrip is a show in itself. Let us handle your connections via Saint-Martin.

The rhythm

The island lives early: shops from about 9am to 7pm, dinner from 7pm. On Sundays, everything slows down — like you.
